Assalamu’alaikum and Salaam Ramadhan to our valued readers. All thanks to our Rabb for allowing us to welcome this beautiful month of Ramadhan once more.

Alhamdulillah. Most of us are given the opportunity to fast during this month of Ramadhan. However, there are some who does not have the same opportunity. Not just the elderly and the ones with medical condition. Women who are going through pregnancy or post-natal process are not able to do so too. The abrupt change of not being able to fast, after years of doing able to. It will probably cause the escalated feeling of awkwardness and guilt. Are you feeling this right now?

SubhanAllah. The feeling of guilt and awkwardness shows that you are a woman of imaan. Do not feel guilt because what you are doing is not out of nafs, it is your responsibility to look after your health and your baby. Do not push yourself and risk causing harm to your child. Allah has bestow to you a gift that not all women get to have. Treasure it and take care of it.

However it is important for us to know on when we are required to pay Fidyah and when are we not required to. It is still unclear or not known to some of the different situations that requires you to do both or either one. Here is a summary on the topic:

When Do I Have to Pay Fidyah & Qada’ Fast

A mother has strong instincts when it comes to their child, even before birth. If the mother feels any abnormality on her child’s responsiveness while she is fasting, and breaks fast with the reason of worrying on her child’s well-being, she will have to pay Fidyah and Qada’ her fast by the next Ramadhan. Regardless of whether she is able to repay back before the next Ramadhan or not, she has to pay Fidyah.

When Do I Have to Qada’ Fast Only?

This applies to when the mother is fasting and she feels that by her fasting, she is endangering herself. For example, due to low blood pressure. It is commonly known that women with low blood pressure has more tendency to past out instantaneously. While worrying about her health affecting the baby, she breaks fast, she only has to qada’ her fast by the next Ramadhan and does not have to pay Fidyah.

Unless she is unable to qada’ her fast by the next Ramadhan due to breastfeeding or other reasons, she will have to pay Fidyah as well.

How Do I Know How Much Do I Have to Pay?

Alhamdulillah, it has been made accessible and easy by MUIS as they have include a Fidyah Calculator on their website. All you have to do is keep track on the number of days, and input the number accordingly. Simply go to https://www.muis.gov.sg/Our-Services/Fidyah

With that, we hope that this post has been beneficial for all of us.
