How many Qurban advertisements have you seen recently? As many as the number of posts about the upcoming election? Probably. Indeed we are seeing many more organisations, companies and individuals offering the Qurban service this year. This may well be due to the fact that this is the first time in many years that authorities in Singapore will not be bringing in sheep from Australia for Qurban at mosques like they usually do every year. COVID-19 has now made thousands of Muslims in Singapore consider other alternative arrangements to perform their yearly Ibadah Qurban.
Qurban.sg is one of the many organisations offering Qurban and we are very glad that many other organisations and individuals are doing the same. It is no doubt a heavy responsibility to serve the Muslims in Singapore and with many others coming on board, this huge responsibility can then be shared.
Each year, we will see many organisations and institutions educate the public about the significance and importance of performing the Qurban and how the distribution of meat from the Qurban will benefit those who are less fortunate. This year, Qurban.sg has launched the #qurbansgchallenge which aims to trigger the curiosity of both the young and the old. Using Augmented Reality (AR), Qurban.sg allows visitors at their website www.QURBAN.sg, to launch a camera interface using their mobile devices and see a sheep, goat or a cow appearing ‘in front of them.’
We aim that while having fun doing this challenge, it will become a conversational starter for parents to educate the young about Qurban and its significance.
